The history of Naries is about as colourful as the farm itself. Dating back to as far as 1840, the area was previously known as 'Ezelfontein'. In 1932 the name changed to Naries. In 1950 the farm got a new owner in the form of Daantjie Scholtz, a local lawyer and Member of Parliament for Namaqualand.

With a fierce passion for the region, Daantjie wanted to share Naries with the world. He started remodeling the farmhouse into what it is today. Since Daantjie's death in 1972, the farm has been run by the Daantjie Scholtz Family Trust. It is now a conservation area where everyone can come and enjoy true Northern Cape accommodation.
